One of my fave Marvel movies. "Captain Marvel" isn't the typical superhero movie. What I love about it is that it doesn't follow an actual formula. As far as special effects it's not revolutionary, but the story is great. The acting is top-notch. No spoilers, but worth me going to see it a second time! Easily 5 stars out of 5. Keep reading...

Vers (Brie Larson) is a Kree on Planet Hala tasked with a mission: to get a fellow Kree from the Skrull occupied planet with the help of her mentor Yon-Rogg (Jude Law) and their Starforce team (Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Algenis PĂ©rez Soto and Rune Temte as Att-Lass and Bron-Char respectively). Vers is different from the others though...she shoots photon energy from her hands something that sets her apart from her team, but with no memory of how she got these powers or ended up on Hala she's told the Kree gave it to her. Trained as a Kree soldier Vers and her team now must go Planet C-53 (Earth) to get to deceased Kree  Mar-Vell's (Annette Bening) laboratory and retrieve a weapon that will end the Kree-Skrull war once and for all. Only when Vers lands on C-53 not only is it 1995, but she learns how and why she got to Hala.

The twists and turns in this film are not only logical, but believable. It's not so complex you'd get lost. But the thing that's odd is the very studio that created the superhero formula reinvents it. This story is about a woman looking for her past and in place of a love interest is her single mom best friend Maria Rambeau (Lashawna Lynch) and the beginnings of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg). This movie breaks stereotypes, boundaries, and at the end you want to see it all over again.

Stay for the end there are two end credit scenes. There are also easter eggs from other Marvel films...and there is a sweet scene with the late great Stan Lee :)
