the one about my time in Boston

So Saturday I went up for a car detail (I had a groupon expiring) and was walking around. I was proud of myself that I went up alone, found the T in an area I was unfamiliar, went to the movies, and got myself back to the place in record time. I missed the independence and friendliness of the city. Then I got to thinking about my dating life, how hard it was to make friends, and the work environments I endured.

This week has been eye opening for me too. My "niece" was born. My "dad" was diagnosed with stage 4 lung/liver cancer and given 1 month to live. And I just thought "if I was in Boston I wouldn't be here for this."

The work environments were horrible. To each workplaces defense my professionalism wasn't 100%. I can say that now because the place I work at I would never say or do the things I did at prior places. BUT to my own defense I think I did feel a little...defensive. I noticed when I feel uncomfortable in a situation I tend to make others uncomfortable on purpose to push them away. This isnt the right thing to do which is something I've worked hard to correct but it's fact what I did. In the first company I worked for the work environment was EXTREMELY homophobic and "a boy's club" and in the second it was hostile. I move back to Western MA and work for a company that enforces zero tolerance. Also too I have matured so as I was driving to work I thought "What I put out is what I get back." Still wasn't a fun experience working for either of those two companies in Boston.

Then the unthinkable happened. Let me back up by saying when I moved to Boston January 2007 I had to find a new hip hop radio station (it's how I wake up every morning) so I found online Jamn 94.5. Since Jan 2 I have woken up to them every day (even downloaded the iHeart radio app to listen to them on my drive into work daily since moving June of 2011). The radio personalities Pebbles, Krazy Kulo, Melissa, and Ramiro are on facebook and twitter. So of course I started talking to them. I even sent Ramiro a first copy of my book when I printed it. Wrote an inscription on how much I admired him and his opinion.

I began joking around with Krazy Kulo I'd say a month ago. Letting him know that I know he's str8 but that I thought he was good looking. But the thing is there were more celebs I was joking around with too (Owen Benjamin, Eric Balfour, Alex Pettyfer) and they were joking right back. Owen even sent me a link to this show he was on called "Gaytown" and we traded tweets for awhile.

Again to their defense my joking probably goes a little far. I thought I was being completely funny as I treated each the same but they are strangers so I need to know that everyone takes jokes differently. Well Ramiro decides to take this to the airwaves. Now he didn't mention my book, didn't say "hey thanks for your support" and whenever he responds to my tweets or facebook posts it's to correct me if I made a mistake. Douchebag redflags going up. So he and Krazy Kulo decide I'm a "stalker" and read my tweets...editing them leaving out other people. Of course me being me tweets my disappointment of their "radio bullying" and wish them all luck in their endeavors. I even deleted my Jamn account on their website.

Here's my point. My time in Boston is exactly like my experience with Ramiro. I looked up and admired Boston only to get a slap in the face (by the dating, workplace, etc). I think I am over my adoration with it now. I'm not moving back. Done.

The Craigslist Killer

This movie was very good. It wasn't perfect but it was good. I saw it on Lifetime of course. The acting was superb. The actor playing Philip Markoff Jake McDorman was sooooooo unassuming. He fit the role perfectly (I thought the real Philip was hot-I know I'm seeking help for what ails me).

What I felt would've made it ideal was it provided no depth of character. Didn't show me the viewer why he did what he did or who Philip was as a person. It would lightly touch on it, but then move far away the next second. Anyone looking for answers in this film would've been disappointed.

Colombiana

I had wanted to see this movie in the theaters. By chance it was on Sunday on Starz. SOOOOOOO GOOD! Loved everything about it.

Everyone knows I have a special place for kickass chicks. This was no exception. Zoe KILLED it. She was strong and vulnerable even. When she was mad so was I. When she was upset so was I.

The only thing I was concerned about is that she was SO SKINNY! If the camera adds 10 lbs then she must be a stick figure with meat.

Her chemistry with Michael Vartan was electric! Good plot, acting, and chemistry!!!!

Cabin in the Woods

I was surprised at how much I actually liked this movie. I was even more surprised at the big names in it. It was funny because having watched "Angel" and "Buffy" knowing Joss Wheadon was involved I saw his staple actors in it.

The reveal was STUPID! I'm sorry PLAIN DUMB! I liked the idea but I was just disappointed. This was just too out there for me. Acting was pretty decent. Dialogue was VERY Joss Wheadon if you've seen the above mentioned shows. Think of this as "Scream" meets "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." EXACLTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Darkest Hour

I will say this was OK! I didn't get it. I understand it was an end of the world disaster movie, but I didn't understand how the people knew each other and was shocked by some of the couplings. I understand its a movie but it was blatantly obvious whom will die and whom wouldn't (see my review on Cabin In the Woods). Special effects were cool. Plot was a touch weak.

The Iron Lady

Meryl Streep plays Margaret Thatcher, the first female Prime Minister. The movie is not linear as it tells the present and then flashes back to the past. The only way I kept up with the movie is seriously through the hairdos.

I was one of those booing her 3rd win but lemme tell you she SO flawlessly portrayed Margaret Thatcher she copied her damn signature. There's a scene where Meryl as Margaret is signing books and I looked up Margaret Thatcher on Wikipedia. It showed Margaret's signature and damned if it wasn't identical. The british accent flawless. Her hand and body movements. Yes she deserved it...sorry Vi! Next time!!!

The movie itself was ok. It couldn't figure out if it liked her or not. One scene particularly troubling was her driving to work with her kids screaming by the window. I felt VERY uncomfortable with that. I don't know her but her kids weren't happy by it.

Overall not bad though. "The Queen" is still my favorite British movie...ps the Queen was NEVER showed. Just saying.

The Movies I Turned Off

Here are the list of movies I turned off and didn't even bother finishing.

Think a bad version of "Independence Day" meets "Armaggedon" on the water with Rihanna. MESS!

This movie was so bad I turned it off halfway through because I wasn't even paying attention. Sorry Nick. The first one wasn't very good why add a sequel? The only time I laughed was they were recapping the first movie in the beginning and I was like "Wait what movie is that? It sounds awesome!"

Don't bother seeing these movies...or even renting. Wait for cable.

Shame

Shame is a movie I was hoping to see Michael Fassbender's acting chops and why he wasn't nominated for an Oscar. He did a great job the script was bad.

I tell you there were scenes that he literally stared at the other actor for 2 minutes full. BORING! His scene with his crazy sister was amazing!

Not an easy movie as he was a sex addict with a TON of other problems. He should've been nominated for an Oscar in my opinion. As should his sister in the film Carey Mulligan.

Abduction

I decided to watch Abduction. The storyline is what attracted me. Having said that I do have a mini-crush on Taylor Lautner.

Although I loved and adored watching Taylor stand sideways (his butt is amazing) and see him in sweats (so is his front) that did not carry the movie. Lily Collins whom was awesome in "Mirror Mirror" fell flat in this movie. And Taylor CAN NOT ACT! I love him but he can't.

He is quickly becoming a young Steven Segal which is a good and a bad thing LOL

Mirror Mirror

I didn't think Julia Roberts, America's Sweetheart, could play mean. I was laughing at the trailers that depicted the Julia I know and love. Fast forward to me watching the movie and WOW!

She was a BEYOTCH! I would say her character is a half-sister to the evil Queen of "Once Upon A Time." There was a very logical reason why she hated Snow and she was very sarcastic too. If I say I love it it'd be an understatement. SO MUCH FUN!

If it's possible Julia stole EVERY scene she was in. She was funny, witty, and a bitch! It's not exactly a Disney movie, but it's not too adult. Tweens would love it. Lily Collins was pretty decent an actress in it. I loved that she stood up to Julia in some scenes. What I loved is her Snow was never meek or afraid.

Nathan Lane was HIGH-LARIOUS! Oddly enough Armie Hammer was slightly creepy haha I dunno maybe it was the obvious age difference. Zac Efron shoulda def played this character or someone around his age. Other than that great movie.

The Hunger Games (movie)

Saw "The Hunger Games" tonight. The chatty women next to me and the old lady with a flagellant problem not withstanding I have to say the movie disappointed me.

Say what you want about the "Twilight" films they stay true to the books AND explain ALOT!!! THG was written by Suzanne Collins AND she adapted the screenplay. I was pumped only to discover she apparently doesn't KNOW how to adapt her own material.

There were scenes in the movie that didn't need explaining while a gesture here or a look there meant SO MUCH in the book was not explained. In all honesty I felt rushed. It was like "Ok here is the Hunger Games movie now I'm gonna introduce you to them in the beginning, make sure you care about them cuz I want you to, and we are at the end." WTF?! The actors cast were brilliant choices. Peeta won me over immediately. But I just feel like the script needed fine tuning.

Overall it was good. Definitely set up for the sequels...okay if I'm being honest I KNOW the sequel is next but it didn't set up in this film. It kinda...ended.

Maybe what they shoulda done is had a huge fan of the books and talented screenwriter adapt the books. It worked for Twilight. Just saying.

Wrath of the Titans

If you liked the original you will like this one. It even ties in with the first one!

Personally I loved the first one. This one my only compliant was towards the end. SO MUCH happened that I thought the movie was going to end and set up for a third (literally as I'm watching it I thought this). And it led into the last 30 minutes and I was thinking to myself "Do we have time to tell the rest?"

Sam was very strong in it and there's an out of the blue love story which felt weird and a tad forced BUT made sense.

I will def get this on dvd, but really don't understand WHY it was in 3D.
