Queen & Slim

I’m sooooooo heated...and so proud to be MF Black.

This movie was 4 stars not 5 because of the dramatic license Lena Waithe took that angered DAFUQ outta me.  Keep reading...

It’s about a Black man (Daniel Kaluuya) that goes on a tinder date with a Black woman (Jodie Turner-Smith). When a white cop stops them for his own racist agenda everything gets turned upside down, and before you know it the nation holds its breath waiting for the fate of these two.

Modern Day Bonnie & Clyde, but again that dramatic license makes them dumb. Other characters do inexplicable things and never get retribution. Yes yes I know it’s fiction. But I wanna see a movie even if the ending is sad with smart characters. And this ending FIRED ME UP!!!!!

Still worth seeing. Daniel will score his second Best Leading Actor Oscar nod, but Joaquin has it on lock with “Joker.” And I pray Melina Matsoukas gets her first Best Director nomination. Wow!!! OH and Indya Moore’s supporting role opposite Bokeem Woodine; I wish they both could get awards. I’ve never seen Indya so maternal, and Bokeem so raw. Indya’s character in Pose doesn’t get to be sweet and loving; it’s refreshing seeing them show a different side of themselves.

And in Indya & Bokeem’s final scene on screen Indya hugs Bokeem from behind and he lets them. I had TEARS!!!! Do you know how long I’ve waited to see a man of color not flinch, not say “I ain’t gay,” and just allow a transwoman or color to hug, kiss, or hold his hand? My entire life, y’all. And lemme also say EVERY SINGLE BOKEEM WOODBINE ROLE I END UP HATING HIS CHARACTER! Until this one. Yes his character is flawed but that one moment broke down decades of hating him as an actor. Like wow!! I know I said that a lot. But this movie changed the game. Because of this movie others shall follow like it. Just wow.
