Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book "The Goldfinch" this follows the life of 13 year old Theo Decker, whose mom dies in a museum explosion, to 20 something Theo. After sitting with this movie for 24 hours I am going to give it 4 stars out of 5. Keep reading...
Ansel Elgort as 20-something Theo has put in the best performance of his career thus far. I will go ahead and say he deserves an Oscar nomination. As does KWEEN Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Barbour, a mom of Theo's classmate who takes Theo in after his mom dies. When his wayward/former addict father Larry (played against type by Luke Wilson) comes back into his life to collect him is when Theo's world turns upside down.

The movie is 3/4 flawless. It would've gotten 5 stars from me before the ending. The ending of this film is SOOOOOOOOOOOO rushed you would think they were running out of time. But this movie is almost 3 hours long. There are a few scenes that could've been cut to slow down the ending.

But even with it's long running time and unnecessary scene this movie is STILL better than most of the films out there. This movie deserves Best Lead Actor (Ansel and Oakes Fegley), Best Supporting Actor (Jeffrey Wright and Finn Wolfhard), Best Supporting Actress (Nicole), Best Director (John Crowley), Best Adapted Screenplay (Peter Straughan), Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Hair & Makeup...the list goes on. This movie is this generation's non-sexed up version of "The English Patient." SO GOOD!
