Sisters

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler are sisters who go to their childhood bedrooms in parents home to clean out as their parents are selling the house. This starts a hilarious chain of events culminating with a house party and Tina & Amy's characters coming to a crossroads in their lives. 

Overall funny movie. Like Tina's originality. Worth saying...maybe wait till it's out of theaters with the price of tickets. But I must say the casting of the supporting actors are brilliant. Dianne Weist & James Brolin as the parents, Ike Barinholtz as Amy's sexy love interest, and Matt Oberg as the unsuspecting hornball. I was laughing so hard I was crying. 

The Night Before

I really need to stop saying Seth Rogen isn't funny cuz he totally is. From The Interview to The Guilt Trip he really is hilarious and so is this 5 star movie...Keep reading.

Melissa Benoist was first introduced to me as "Marley Rose" on the now defunct "Glee" and I loved her. Not only could she sing, but her acting was enduring. She was innocent & sweet without being fake. Fast forward to 2015 when Greg Berlanti was looking to expand his already large roster of superhero shows (well-written "The Flash," contrived "Arrow," and pending "Legends of Tomorrow") he cast Melissa as Supergirl. Limitless

Continuing on the 2011 movie the TV series "Limitless" shows Brian played by Jake McDorman discovering NZT (the brain enhancing drug) then getting recruited by the FBI with his his handler Rebecca (Jennifer Carpenter aka Foul-mouthed Deb from "Dexter." 
The show even has Bradley Cooper guest star as Eddie Morra (his character in the original movie). Hill Harper is Rebecca's partner Spelman with Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio portraying their boss Naz. But I cannot forget the lil scene stealers that are Brian's "bodyguards" whom he nicknamed Mike & Ike (Michael James Shaw & Tom Degnan respectively). Keep reading

Julia Roberts plays Jess, an FBI detective in the counterterrorism unit, along with partner Ray played by Chiwetel Ejifor. They answer a call at the mosque they are investigating and find her daughter's body in the dumpster. Raped and murdered of course Jess unravels and Ray is adamant about helping her. As is Nicole Kidman as new ADA Claire. The three are also joined by Reggie (Michael Kelly) & Bumpy (Dean Norris from "Breaking Bad"). Read below.

The Martian

Anyone who knows me knows Matt Damon is my dream guy. He's my number one crush since his breakout role in "Good Will Hunting." Oddly enough that was his first Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar nod...this will be his second.

"The Martian" tells the story of space astronaut/botanist Mark Watney (Matt Damon) accidentally left on Planet Mars is a rush evacuation during a surface storm. Left to his own devices he must survive until a rescue crew comes for him. We all know how this will end, but getting there is what makes it amazing.

First off I know how that sound but the script is surprisingly realistic and amazing. They leave no stone unturned and make you understand everyone's viewpoint. Even the ones you don't agree with thanks in part to the supporting cast led by Jessica Chastain. It's cool how I want to think of Kristen Wiig in a comedic role but in this movie she's dead-on. Yes she has some funny lines, but she's 100% believable as a serious actress. Bravo, Ridley.

Ridley Scott does an impressive job directing. You need to see this movie in the theater or on a huge screen. The visuals are unbelievable.

To say this movie is 5 stars is an understatement. It will win Best Picture at the Oscars. I feel this is Matt Damon's Tom Hank's "Castaway" role. If Johnny Depp's Whitey Bulger didn't exist this year Matt would win Best Actor. 

The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Everyone is back for the sequel to one of my fave movies from last year The Maze Runner. Dylan O'Brien as the lead again is such a brilliant casting choice.

This time out of the maze the kids are taken to a base where other kids from the maze are. We find out who put them in the maze, why most people stay in the maze, and what is just beyond the maze. I don't want to give away spoilers, but you literally cannot trust anyone or get attached to anyone. Any character may betray you and/or die. 

This is one of my fave tween movie series ever. Cannot wait till they're all done so I can own the series. 5 out of 5 stars easily.

Black Mass

Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger...yes he will be nominated for an Oscar. It's automatic. There is no question Depp was made for this role. He may even win over Eddie Redmayne who will play the first transwoman in The Danish Girl (since Eddie won last year and this is Johnny's career defining role). But Johnny isn't the only one that shines.

Joel Edgerton, Jesse Plemmons (Meth Damon from "Breaking Bad"), Rory Cochrane, Kevin Bacon, the list of amazing supporting cast goes on for days. Headed by Scott Cooper (one of the hottest looking directors ever) this movie explains alot but not the most important thing.

When I see a movie about someone as big as Whitey Bulger I want to know WHY. Why does he kill? Why does he hate? Why does he think he's above the law? That's the one thing in the script that isn't answered. Johnny does a great job acting, but he never acts in a scene that makes me get (not agree) why Whitey is so evil. Then again maybe that's the point of the writer. I just can't believe people are just evil to be evil. I truly believe they end up that way through their own interpretation of life.

Overall 3 stars out of 5. Living in the Boston area it is sad to hear the stories of locals affected by Whitey's crimes. Families changed forever. I guess that's also part of the reason I want to know why. But mark my words Johnny will win the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar.

Hitman Agent 47

Rupert Friend taking over for Timothy Olyphant is a perfect casting. I loved this movie, and hope this series continues. How is Rupert not a bigger star? And Zachary Quinto was AMAZING as well. Who knew he could do action scenes? 4 stars outta 5.
