All the Money in the World

So the premise is J.Paul Getty I was a billionaire in the 70s. He made his billions by being the first to get oil from Eastern Asia to the US on HUGE ships. He had that oil turned to gasoline. And boom BILLIONS! Plus instead of spending his money he put it into a charitable trust and invested in artwork, homes, and etc. Again BILLIONS!
Of course the trailer tells you he refused to pay the $17million ransom demanded for his grandson Paul. What I was pissed off about was how these random kidnappers were MAD the ransom wasn't paid. A few said it was OWED to them. Um you don't work, you kidnap a kid from a wealthy family, and you think you're ENTITLED to something? I didn't get it. Also Mark Wahlberg was played up as this sexy hunk with a ton of butt shots and him looking super sexy...why? Michelle Williams as Abigail Getty (Paul's mom) and Christopher Plummer as J.Paul I CARRIED this movie. Charlie Plummer as Paul did a great job though I will admit. I just didn't get the motivation of the kidnappers and Mark Wahlberg's butt. And there were scenes that happened but didn't explain how we arrived here...for example how Paul got kidnapped. I have other detailed examples but I don't want to provide a spoiler.
Overall it WAS good, but just not the emotional slamdunk I was hoping for. It felt like a kid excited to tell you a big secret then rushing to the end.
Look for Michelle and Christopher to get Oscar nods.

The Greatest Showman

"The Greatest Showman" is the story of a poor tailor's son who dreams of a life better than what he's use to. He ends up creating the first circus and uses bad press to fuel his obsession not to exploit the lives of others, but to enhance them. In doing my research it was common practice to sell your child to the circus if they had any deformities. COMMON PRACTICE! PT gave them a home and told them "people are gonna stare, why not make money off that?"
This movie has everything from a love story, story of triumph, villain (on a large scale), and sad moments. But it's more hopeful and Hugh Jackman is perfectly cast. Although Michelle Williams is great I feel she's not PERFECT for the role...she's good just I could see maybe Nicole Kidman in the role. And Zac Efron and Zendaya have what I call "the slow burn" in cinema love story. You build in the story to LOVE them together. But the scene stealer for me was Keala Settle as the bearded lady. I wanted to see everything about her and all the time. And that singing voice WOW!
Worth a viewing. I give it 4 out of 5. I liked it alot, but dunno why I didn't love it. The soundtrack was three words: Ah, mah, zing. I'm done!
Father Figures

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle
The premise is nerdy Spencer does the homework for football player Anthony "Fridge" and gets caught; both end up in detention. Pretty girl Bethany gets in trouble for sassing a teacher and gets detention. And hardcore brainiac Martha tells off a gym teacher and gets detention. While in detention the foursome find the Jumanji game and choose players. They get sucked into the game as their game avatars. Spencer becomes the buff and athletic Dr. Smolder Bravestone (The Rock), Bethany becomes A MAN named Dr. Shelly Oberon (Jack Black), Fridge becomes short and athletically challenged Mouse (Kevin Hart), and Martha becomes babelicious Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan).
This movie is so funny because even though the teens are their avatars, their avatars are them. Seeing The Rock scream and Kevin Hart be all tough is funny. And seeing Jack Black act like feminine...and use his penis to pee was worth the price of admission. I'm not even a fan of his and feel he stole the show!
If you liked the original this is just as funny...NOT a kid's movie though because the jokes are very adult.
5 out of 5 stars because it's fun, original, and just a great movie all the way round.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Disaster Artist

Ozark

Stranger Things

Season 1 was great; Season 2 jumped the shark a bit. I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars. Keep reading...
Justice League
Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders
Murder on the Orient Express

Thor: Ragnarok

The best Thor yet! 5 stars out of 5. Keep reading...
For me the Thor movies have been like the three Captain America movies and the Iron Man movies...each movie is better than the last. Not sure what Marvel is doing that DC can't, but these three movie franchises tie in together and are just great!
This Thor was funny, smart, and well-acted. Jeff Goldblum is HILARIOUS in his small role. Jeff defines "there are no small roles just small actors."
All is well in Asgard until the actual first born of Odin (Anthony Hopkins) comes back. Cate Blanchett is the wickedly evil Hella (appropriate cuz she brings HELL). Even though she's NEVER been mentioned before it's because every kingdom has a ruler and executioner. She was the executioner until Odin wanted to not be a tyrant king. He locked her away as well as their army. When she arises Hell is the easy place compared to what she does.
Mix in the Hulk/Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Loki (the delicious Tom Hiddleston), and Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and this was a great superhero film. Every detail covered and homages paid. It was as if Joss Whedon wrote this (which he could've).
Worth seeing.
Mechanic Resurrection

It's a Jason Statham action movie...actually it's a sequel from "Mechanic." I give it 3 stars out of 5. I was thoroughly entertained. But....it's a Jason Statham action movie...I wish there was more to say about the movie, but it's got the emotional depth of a Madonna film BUT more entertaining. Action sequences are good. Can we see JS in an action movie that has depth? Pretty please, Hollywood.
Cloud Atlas

I didn't get the deeper meaning of all the characters being connected and all that jazz. It was okay. Visually amazing but why were white ppl playing yellow face? And black ppl playing yellow and white face? It wasn't offensive over it just being strange.
I kept starring at James D'Arcy & Jim Sturgess' bums tho. So distracting hahaha

The Babysitter

It's called "The Babysitter" and it's not your average movie...in fact this is a tween film. Keep reading.

The Big Sick

The premise is simple traditional Indian boy in Chicago falls for simple White girl. And that's where things get complicated.
The story may be exacerbated, but the actual execution is FLAWLESS. The thing that tears them apart isn't another man or woman, but the characterization of them: Indian traditions, their own fears, and life in general.
Well worth a viewing. Everyone brings their A game too...best part it's based on lead actors Zoe Kazan and Kumail Nanjiani's relationship, who also co-wrote the movie. Ps Holly Hunter is a standout as Zoe's mom.
